Surprised they are putting arable farmland over to growing fuel for this. What's wrong with agricultural/industrial/domestic organic waste?

The plant produces methane, so must have the ability to filter smells.

I wonder if Steve Taylor's volunteer cyclists will be coming up the Kilmarnock Rd cycle lane with deliveries! Note to ERC - extend the advisory cycle lane to Church St in Giffnock on both sides of the carriageway to help them out.

More Info from ERC

Biogas Info Portal

550m from a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Also note there are 2 plants being talked about here. One turns the silage (I think it's grass they are proposing to use) into CO2 and methane, and the other burns the methane to produce electricity (and CO2 and water as a byproduct). This CO2 will then be vented (with one of those flame things, which might strip out any contaminating methane).

NMCC questioned the applicants carefully at a public meeting.
They eventually admitted that they were expecting the bulk of their fuel source to come from outwith Newton Mearns, primarily Eaglesham and East Ayrshire despite claiming NM farmers would be the main beneficiary.
In practise the majority of it will arrive in 10 and 20 tonne dump trailers pulled behind agricultural tractors thereby greatly adding to congestion and mess on the GSO and M77.
They were not planning on generating electricity on site. We know there is no local, suitable connection to the national electricity grid but there is a connection to the gas main.
Fields currently used for growing food for humans and livestock will instead produce for this subsidy junkie plant.
Having blown millions entirely due to their own arrogance and stupidity, ERC will be be the main beneficiaries as the landlord to this nonsense.
Without subsidies based on carbon taxes, the applicants accept this plant would not be viable.
They are venting carbon dioxide. Am I the only one thinking the whole global warming/climate change fiascos are predicated on the release of these greenhouse gases?
It is not far from the largest primary school in Scotland.
ERC are as usual being accommodating, but only to their friends, by not insisting on an Environmental Impact Assessment. Given the proximity of the nearby SSI, Mearns Primary and proposed residential housing, both an EIA and Transport Impact Assessment report should be insisted upon by ERC.
Of course they waived the requirement IIRC for these for the CALA, another of their friends, site behind Cheviot Drive which has since caused flooding as predicted by residents.

So no impact assessments. Subsidised by taxes on greenhouse gases to generate CO2. Adding road miles by slow moving agricultural machinery. More emissions from this transport.
All this is in defiance of ERC's own stated policies on being green and reducing road miles.
Of course that only is used against those who are not viewed as friendly by this morally bankrupt council.
Do they care? Not in the slightest. This is an out of control, corrupt council, desperately putting the needs of keeping their elected administration members in power, who in turn keep incompetent, lying officers in jobs, with no concerns whatsoever for the needs or wishes of residents.

Is this another rant? You decide.

DJ, you are a loud speaker indeed and the silencing is in process. Our friends are our friends, the Community Councils are not and this is precisely why they have to go. We hope all CC elections are contested, This will leave some of East Ren without CCs for 2 months, whilst we recruit our most loyal subjects. Much can be accomplished within that time. Mwah ha ha ha ha....

First line of the article:
Land near the Greenhags Recycling Centre has been earmarked for the construction of a five megawatt power plant.

This ERC paper also talks about a "renewable energy plant". Do they just mean a methane production plant, which can then be fed into the gas main?

I can see these being useful when you have a waste product that can be used eg spent grains at a distillery, stubble from crops, brewery malt (Kelburn Brewery?), forestry scrap waste etc, but to actively grow crops (or grass), just to make this seems like an awful faff.
