Cllr David MacDonald has posted pictures on his Facebook page regarding the repair of potholes.

Think I raised the matter(with Cllr MacDonald and here more than 2 months ago !!

Sorry, David, but it would appear that it is only a problem when it is close to home?

Please read this topic again.

Further comments/posts regarding pothole pictures from Cllr MacDonald's Facebook page -

- I though that was footage from the Mars rover when it popped up...

- Saw these earlier today...terrible!

- Disgraceful

- Who did the work ? Looks like it was the "Orally Men" from Faulty Towers!

- In true style That’s ERC for you !

- This isn’t the fault of the workers it’s management that decides what’s to be repaired, inept doesn’t do them justice, we need our elected officials alerting us as you do but also to get on the relevant committees in the council to make a difference in what’s happening

- Well said

- Cllr David Macdonald. - Independent While I agree with that in theory, committee work is absolutely useless if the majority of councillors in them don't have collective will to make changes. The only way that will ever happen is if the public elect enough Indy councillors to the chamber to take control. I was the sole Indy councillor on Audit and Scrutiny and I was banging my head against a wall. There was absolutely no other councillor on it who wanted anything actually scrutinised or publicised or out in the open where it belonged. It was nothing but a cheerleading squad engaging in backslapping sessions. It will remain as such until the public finally realise the only way they will ever get a council that they want is to vote for Indy candidates and elect Indy councillors who have nothing but council tax payers interests at heart. I can lead the horse to the water but I can't make them drink.

- Independent that’s why I put a x against your name, you could’ve named the headbangers to let the people know

- some have been banging on about this for many years, no one it appears is interested. In my opinion in East Ren when the administration is formed, they decide the make up of committees. The chair is appointed from the administration and each committee have more administration members than opposition. The Administration cabinet take decisions, then pass that onto the other administration members who implement that policy in committee. If anyone was to vote against the administration policy, they could be removed from whatever financially lucrative position they had been appointed to in the administration.

- thanks for the information despite it being horrific

- Unfortunately Ward 4 is the same as every other. those residents who voted for a party and not the candidate got, in my opinion what they deserved. The candidate should have been scrutinised to see if they were worthy of the peoples vote. Those that voted Conservative got a Cllr who states on his facebook page that he is the Cllr for Busby and Clarkston. No mention of Williamwood, Stamperland or Netherlee. Those that voted Labour got a Cllr who has apparently said, in print, that he does not work for the people of ward 4, he works for the council. In relation to those that voted SNP, I choose not to say due to the fact that whenever I mention anything slightly detrimental about any ER SNP Cllr I receive a lot, and I mean a lot of vile online abuse.

- I know the feeling on that one

- David Christopher Macdonald Jeffrey Bailey I greatly appreciate the support you gave me Jeffrey.

- David Christopher Macdonald ........which is what happened to our great former councillor, my predecessor, Cllr. Ralph Robertson (ind). He was originally in the admin and then was kicked out for voting against them. Dissent is not tolerated. I miss Ralph 's membership. He was a great councillor and a good man

- Shocking workmanship! To many just doing what I’m told , no pride in work these days and getting well paid too

- What do the guys get paid?

- I thought Station Road was a bit rough after a recent week’s work - but compared to this it’s pretty reasonable.

- YTS trainee would do a better job!

- A blind handless one!!

- The men are only allowed to do what they are told and the list they are given

- it's the quality of the work . It's shocking

- Do we know how much it costs to do these tar holes

- Cllr David Macdonald. - Independent I don't know the specific cost but I can found out the rough materials cost for the 12 or so outside my property and also the labour cost. 2 operatives were there with the truck for about 45 minutes -an hour. I'll get back to you on it.....

- Shocking

- Is that an abstract art project? I hope no one is getting paid for that crap

- We need to seriously consider withholding council tax and withdrawing consent from the fools that run East Ren. It’s a “farce”*

* Not swearing out of respect to my representative

- Whilst on the subject of roads... eaglesham road from cartsbridge to ashfield after resurfacing is so bad its like a roller coaster.. i feel sick driving up it ... needs sorted.. unacceptable quality of repair

- Cllr David Macdonald. - Independent I agree. It's an utter shambles. Worse than it was before. I will pass on your comments to roads.

- Believe that's the new plastic surface

- This is disgraceful, so these people know Anything about roads and surface repairs, I would not pay anything for a job of work done to this ridiculous standard, get these men in and ask them what the hell do you think you are doing.

- Should have read do these people

- Try coco pops and milk

- Reported Viaduct Rd and Arthur street multiple times and just ignored... Workmanship at Busby Glen for path replacement leaves much to be desired too...

- From Hawthorn road and up Round to the st Joseph’s primary is shocking as well. Apparently one street I enquired about is 287 on the list of repairs ERC as always you never fail to fail me!

With regards to your email on Viaduct Road, Linwood Ave and Overlee Road, I will visit on Monday and will take pictures of all potholes and will forward these to the Roads Department requesting that these are repaired as soon as possible.

I also note your comments on the deterioration of the roads and I will pass this on to Roads for comment. I will be back in touch as soon as I have a reply.

Hi Annette

Please help with this report.

I have had to report the state of Viaduct Road, Linwood Ave and Overlee Road again to Roads.

Can you say what you are currently doing to help your constituents regarding these road problems.

Obviously things are not going to get any better.

REF: 101001842876

Please inspect Viaduct Road, Linwood Ave and Overlee Road.

There are too many potholes to list here.

The surface on all these roads is breaking up both in the middle and in the gutters.

These roads have again deteriorated since the last small number of repairs.

The recent 'repairs' to potholes in Viaduct Road are now themselves in need of repair.

The road surface outside Nos ..........Linwood Ave is potholed and breaking away. The road is also breaking up in the gutters.

Thanks

Thank you for your correspondence and I can inform you I walked round Viaduct Rd and Linwood Ave quite recently, certainly after Viaduct Rd was patched and I was going to call in and speak to you but your curtains were closed and I didn't want to wake you

Once again, I will pass on your email

Stewart

I am quite happy to show the residents of Neilston the state of Viaduct Road, Linwood Ave and Overlee Road.

I would ask them to read the previous posts on this topic.

Council accused of playing favourites over Neilston potholes

NEILSTON residents have demanded the council quits treating them like ‘second-class citizens’ when it comes to roads.

ast Renfrewshire Council has been accused of letting village roads fall into disrepair while prioritising more affluent areas.

The issue was highlighted at the most recent meeting of Neilston Community Council, when one member said: “There’s a ‘them and us’. We’re the ‘us’ and over on the other side of this council authority is the ‘them’.

“And they seem to be giving more priority to the roads over there than on this side. I’ve been reporting the state of Main Street, which is a disgrace, but nothing’s being done, yet the council has money for streets in Giffnock and Newton Mearns.

“I am fed up with the divide. That lot over there - Giffnock, Eaglesham, Clarkston - seem to get everything.”

The frustration is shared by many people in the community. Fiona MacLaren, a resident of Millview Terrace, told the Barrhead News: “I think our roads are the worst in the whole of East Renfrewshire.

“We’ve been told the council doesn’t have any money for the works and there’s other places that need it more, but we don’t find that acceptable.”

The Roads Service has a list of around 350 carriageways and 250 footways requiring attention, but can only afford to carry out between 15 and 20 resurfacings per year.

A council spokesman said: “Roads across the whole of the authority are assessed by our team and are prioritised based on a number of factors.

“Those most in need of repair have been added to our works programme for 2018/19, which includes a number of schemes in Barrhead and Neilston. Work to repair our roads network is an ongoing issue and by prioritising work by need rather than area, it ensures resources are allocated in the most fair and equitable way.”

Cllr Annette Ireland has posted on their Facebook Page -

Clarkston: Your Town - Have Your Say

4 October at 08:16 ·

We will soon be installing new modern lighting columns in Clarkston town centre to create a nicer and brighter environment.

The existing columns will stay in place until after the festive period so there will be no disruption to the Christmas lights.

We are still planning further improvement works in the new year.

This will include introducing a new trial street layout on Busby Rd incorporating parklets, greenery and seating areas.

Revised timeline to follow.

Apologies for the delay and thanks for your patience.

Neilston residents given fresh hope in bid to repair pesky potholes

THERE is light at the end of the tunnel for campaigners who are fighting to have Neilston’s crumbling carriageways repaired.

The issue was raised at the most recent meeting of Neilston Community Council, where members complained that roads in the village had been ignored for far too long.

Particular attention was drawn to Main Street, from the bus stop down to the stretch in front of the Travellers Rest pub, which was said to have been reported numerous times since October 2017 but is still in a state of disrepair.

Even the pedestrian crossing on Main Street was said to be unsafe, with members highlighting a recent incident in which a 93-year-old woman with a walking aid fell while attempting to cross as she stumbled over a pothole.

One community councillor commented: “It’s dangerous. You have the lights in your favour but you can’t get across because of the holes in the road.”

However, Councillor Paul O’Kane, who represents Newton Mearns North and Neilston, suggested there could soon be good news for campaigners who are keen to see the pothole problems being fixed.

Commenting on discussions he has had with officers in East Renfrewshire Council’s roads department, he said: “I have to caveat this, because it will be subject to council budgeting and the roads revenue works programme, but the state of the roads is an issue I encounter repeatedly at surgeries and driving through Neilston myself.

“The initial proposal was that Neilston’s roads would next be resurfaced in 2024. I suggested that they might bring that forward.

“The roads department is now looking to bring that forward into the next financial year, which begins April 1.

“Essentially, it would be the length of Main Street, from Station Road down.”

Neilston residents have previously complained about being treated like “second-class citizens” when it comes to roads, accusing the council of prioritising more affluent areas.

East Renfrewshire Council’s roads service has a list of around 350 carriageways and 250 footways requiring attention but budget constraints mean it can only afford to carry out between 15 and 20 resurfacings per year.

Asked at the meeting about Neilston’s side roads and residential streets, many of which are also in need of repair, Councillor O’Kane said: “There’s a real challenge in getting funding from the budget.

“It will depend what happens in the council budget and what is allocated to roads. We need to see what we can do with limited funds.”
