Hi Alan

It would appear in the past couple of days someone has attempted to fill in potholes in Viaduct Rd, Linwood Ave and Overlee Rd.

Unfortunately they have not made a very good job of it........quite frankly especially in Viaduct Road it is a mess.

I would ask that you visit Viaduct Rd, Linwood Ave and Overlee Rd to see for yourself and would appreciate your views/comments -

- if you would be satisfied with this outside your own door

- What can be done to fix this mess

Thanks

Hi Alan

I believe the condition after these repairs has deteriorated.

I don't think it unreasonable that you visit your constituency to give your view/opinion on these current repairs.

Is that not what a Councillor does(and paid for)?

Thanks

Hi Alan

It would appear Councillors have been made aware by roads -

'As you may be aware we have not been able to carry out the usual cutting out around our repairs recently due to the discovery of coal tar in the area and the need for us to re-assess our working practices and risk assessment....'

What is the problem with coal tar?

What is the risk?

Thanks

Dear sir

I have just had a response from the roads dept regarding yours, and others, complaints regarding Viaduct Rd where they advise that the supervisor has inspected the repairs and agrees that these repairs are inadequate.

She states there are problems with some road surfaces and they have been trying to fill in potholes as a temporary measure and they hope to be in a position to fill in the potholes properly within the next few weeks

Kind regards

Stewart

Sorry Councillor Miller, should also have added that a new traffic island is planned to be installed at the Viaduct Rd/Busby Rd junction before the end of March ‘19 and the section of Viaduct Road at its junction with Busby Rd will be fully resurfaced then,

Hi Councillor Miller,

I’ve taken a look myself at the repairs carried out on the above roads.

I would agree that those in Viaduct Road are not ideal and they have begun to break out again.

The surrounding road surface there is not in a good condition which makes it difficult to effect a long lasting repair especially when infilling only.

As you may be aware we have not been able to carry out the usual cutting out around our repairs recently due to the discovery of coal tar in the area and the need for us to re-assess our working practices and risk assessments accordingly and therefore have been infilling potholes only.

We hope to be able to revert to proper cut out patching again very soon and I will arrange for this area to be re-visited by our repair squad then.

What is the problem with coal tar that you are aware of?

What is the risk?

'a new traffic island is planned to be installed at the Viaduct Rd/Busby Rd junction'

What is the reason for the traffic island?

Who requested it?

What is the cost?

Thanks

Hi Annette

Thanks for this. The 'repairs' are a mess.

But suddenly today there seems to be a lot of activity at the Viaduct Rd/Busby Rd junction.

Afternoon,

I have spoken to Roads regarding the repairs recently carried out and they agree with myself that they are not ideal as they have begun to break out again.

They have informed me that as the surrounding road surface is not currently in a good condition this makes it difficult to effect a long lasting repair especially when infilling only.

They have assured me that they will patch this area of road very soon and hope to return within the next three to four weeks.

I understand that a new traffic island is planned to be installed at the Viaduct Rd/Busby Rd junction before the end of March ‘19 and I have been informed that the section of Viaduct Road at its junction with Busby Rd will be fully resurfaced then.

Gritting issues continue in Busby

Concerns have been raised over the lack of roads being gritted in Busby.

Residents in Riverside Gardens have continually had a problem in severe weather.

Colin McLennan, who has lived there for 30 years, said: “It’s a steep hill up to Riverside Gardens, and there’s a bend about half way up.

When it is really icy cars really struggle to get up the road.

“Through our management company we tried to get the road gritted without success.

“We then tried to get the council to give us a grit bin, but we had to purchase it ourselves.

We then asked them to fill the grit bin, again with no success.”

An East Renfrewshire Council spokesman said: “As a council, we have limited resources, therefore we need to prioritise which roads we treat.

“We prioritise the busiest roads in East Renfrewshire as these roads are at the highest risk for accidents.

“These priority routes cover over half of our roads network which is one of the highest coverages in Scotland.

“During adverse weather, once all priority routes are deemed safe, we do grit non-priority routes and pathways.

“We currently have 337 grit bins across the authority that anyone can use and that are regularly refilled and this is considered to be the maximum that is manageable with the resources we have.

“Residents who choose to purchase their own grit bin for their street will have to make arrangements to replenish it themselves.”

Residents can collect free grit from the Thornliebank depot on Carnwardic Road Monday-Friday, 7.30am-4pm.

Residents need to bring their own small container.

Hi Alan

As Convener for Environment is this not your area(roads)? Is this not something the Convener for Environment should be aware of?

Would Councillors not come to you as Convener for Environment for information regarding this?

Again would appreciate if you can give requested information -

It would appear Councillors have been made aware by roads -

'As you may be aware we have not been able to carry out the usual cutting out around our repairs recently due to the discovery of coal tar in the area and the need for us to re-assess our working practices and risk assessment....'

What is the problem with coal tar?

What is the risk?
