Remember the days when 'The Extra' as it was known produced articles like this.

Articles that were local, up to date matters that were always investigated and the facts always printed.

We are all aware that eventually Lorraine McMillan, Chief Executive of East Renfrewshire Council, in our opinion, threw her teddy out of the pram.

Subsequently the Editor of 'The Extra' was summonsed from Fife, spoken to and the journalist who was producing these factual articles was suddenly moved away to work on Jumble sale stories which related to small villages in the north of Scotland.

To be replaced by a reporter who was already working on the Cumbernauld news and now had The Extra to control.

The articles became, well what can we say, not as current or critical of the council.

Then Johnston Press who owned 'The Extra' and lots of other smaller titles throught out the UK, like the I paper, Scotsman etc appears to have got into financial difficulty.

The group was subsequently taken over by JPI which is a hedge fund group and they have put the papers up for sale.

Staff have been apparently rearranged and now have a number of titles to control.

Meanwhile the hardcopy 'Extra' newspaper was no longer produced.

Whilst the group and or the individual titles like 'The Extra' are up for sale the new group have retained their Facebook sites.

The Extra online was 'followed' by many people, however many lately have been expressing frustration at the never ending articles produced on the site that related on the whole to Edinburgh, the South of England and even articles that had nothing to do with the UK.

Copies of Ipaper and Scotsman articles, amoungst others are constantly reproduced on this 'local' site.

We have researched the new group JPI and have discovered that the 'local' reporters are based in Dunfermline, Fife.

Using Mr Google we could see the 'By lines' of many articles were from two reporters.

Looking at these reporters personal internet pages, open to the public, like Twitter, they are both openly declaring that they work on The Extra and named other titles which include 'Fife Free Press'.

Further public information shows that both Dawn Renton and Kevin McRoberts are based in Dumfermline are regular contributors to the main JPI titles.

So your 'local' reporter is no longer local.
