🚨Antisocial Behaviour - Clarkston🚨

Further to the awful antisocial behaviour disturbance on Saturday night in the centre of Clarkston I have been in contact with our Police Scotland Area Inspector, and have spoken to both Police Scotland and our Wardens Team this morning.

The Police have assured me that they will be requesting additional police resources, especially for this coming weekend.

These resources will include officers from their mounted branch and from other divisional teams.

As Clarkson had previously been identified as a hotspot a Police Scotland Action Plan had been applied to our area and this will be added to following this weekend’s behaviour.

In addition the following has been arranged:

• Clarkston has been earmarked for more frequent CCTV hotspot checks – this will include Clarkston Toll and other known hotspots including Williamwood High School, Carolside Primary School etc.

• Clarkston has been marked for extra attention from the Community Safety Wardens.

• The incident on Saturday night has been raised with our local Police Problem Solving Team – extra resources have been requested for the authority; Police will also be linking in with British Transport Police.

• ERC’s Youth services will be aiming to resume their on street work when restrictions ease, hopefully from the 15th March as they are very much aware of the scale of this issue.

Its so important that we continue to all work together on this.

We live in such a fantastic area and its important that the Police, Wardens, and Youth Services are all taking this very seriously.

In the meantime, if you see any instances of antisocial behaviour please call 101 or ERC's Ring and Report team immediately.

Here's the official statement from the Police Area Commander for East Renfrewshire regarding events in Clarkston on Saturday.

We've also been notified of further actions being put in place and will share an update on these shortly.

"About 2040hrs on Saturday 6 March 2021 officers carrying out an anti-disorder / violence reduction action plan came across a large group of youths blatantly breaching COVID regulations on Busby Road, Clarkston at its junction with Mearns Road.

Whilst engaging with the youths one officer was assaulted by one of the youths, whereby he was kneed to the groin.

A melee ensued with a total of six youths (aged 15-16 years) apprehended for charges including Breach of The Peace, possession of a knife and possession of cocaine.

PAVA (incapacitant spray) was deployed by two officers and assistance was provided from colleagues throughout Greater Glasgow Division and beyond.

Three officers were slightly injured but able to continue their tour of duty."

Thanks Cllr Colm Merrick, Safety Convenor, for providing us with this information.
