Bull Rd. Road closure. Scottish Power energy networks. Very confusing. Is it open? Is it closed? Is there any further work going on? Hard to tell as there are no workers present. When are the signs and equipment being collected? Who knows? It's crystal ball stuff. But the important point I am trying to make here is that the council should be pushing to have all of this return to normal as soon as possible and sadly that is not happening.

This road closure caused the traffic problems this morning at drop off time at Busby PS which raises serious safety concerns.

Update from ERC about Busby traffic issues.
Received at 15:00.

Hi Councillor Macdonald,

As indicated yesterday our inspector visited site this morning and found that the Scottish Water reinstatement works had not yet been completed – he followed this up with SW and they have advised that unfortunately their hotbox vehicle that they use to transport the surfacing material has broken down and they have not been able to repair it in time for the reinstatement to be carried out today to allow the traffic management to be removed from East Kilbride road prior to peak time this afternoon.

They have assured us that the reinstatement will be completed without fail tomorrow morning and the road re-opened around lunchtime tomorrow however we have asked that they consider the possibility of whether the road can be made safe enough to re-open this afternoon before peak time using cones to guide traffic away from the unreinstated edge of carriageway and then they can redeploy the traffic management again tomorrow between peak hours to carry out the final reinstatement work. Their engineer is heading to site at present to make that judgement and our inspector is also on his way to assess this. Given that this is as we know a busy bus route it may not be safe to allow two way working pending full reinstatement.

Worst case scenario should it not be safe to re-open the road to two way traffic this afternoon then the traffic management will remain in place until the reinstatement is carried out early tomorrow and the road re-opened around lunchtime.

I am heading into a meeting just now but have requested an update from SW and our inspector as soon as a decision is made and I will advise you of the outcome asap,

I can only apologise for the inconvenience that this has caused to your constituents and the travelling public and as indicated previously this matter has already been raised with Scottish Water,

Regards
Roads & Transportation Controller

From ERC Roads Controller.

Hi David,

Unfortunately, following their site visit both the Scottish Water engineer and our inspector agreed it would not be safe to open the road to two way traffic prior to full reinstatement therefore traffic management will remain in place until this work can be completed tomorrow morning – we anticipate the road being fully re-opened around lunchtime tomorrow,

** Busby - East Kilbride Road - Scottish Water Works **

** Final Update (Hopefully)

Scottish Water have informed ERC that unfortunately, following a site visit this afternoon, that it would not be safe to open the road to two way traffic today. Therefore I have been informed that Scottish Water traffic management will remain in place until the work can be completed tomorrow morning – Scottish Water have informed ERC that they anticipate the road being fully re-opened around lunchtime tomorrow.

* UPDATE **

I've just spoken to ERC's Road's Department and Scottish Water are aiming to have the road works completed and the traffic lights on East Kilbride Road removed by peak traffic time of 4pm today (4th March)

Emergency works have been carried out to a damaged sewer on East Kilbride Road, Busby.

Scottish Water have given assurances that the traffic lights will be manually controlled during the peak hours of 7.30am – 7pm today and that the excavation will be reinstated, made safe and the road should be opened before peak time tomorrow.
