Subject: aBV / Scottish Water - Weekend working Advice

I write in relation to your recent correspondence with Scottish Water with regards to the fact that there were works being completed over the course of the past couple of weekends.

Firstly, please accept or apologies for no letter/postcard being received ahead of these works.

This should have been sent out to yourselves.

Going forward however, please note that weekend working will be kept to a minimum.

We have had to work at the weekend recently due to issues we have encountered with regards to a water main diversion.

The water main diversion was a necessity to be completed ahead of the upgrading to the sewer network itself.

We therefore worked these Sundays in an attempt to minimise any future problems and to ensure the sewer upgrade itself still maintains construction programme.

We have now resolves these issues with the diversion looking to be completed by Tuesday 11th February.

I also understand that there may have been frustration with what appears to be minimal progress on the site.

This is due to the required methodology during the installation of a water main diversion where the new main needs to be left for a period of time during which time the pressure is tested, it is disinfected, sampling of the water is completed and there are also a number of days in which the results of any samples taken to be returned.

As such, it may look like not much progress is being made but we need to abide by the timescales as set out to ensure the new water main is safe.

Trust that this explains the situation however do not hesitate to call me on the number below.

Subject: Re:  Mail Ref  - Viaduct rd/Linwood Avenue - Surfacing/footway & Street Lighting -  Over A Year On - Current Update February 2021

Hi Jane

Please see below update from Scottish Water.

As a completion time has been given - April 2021 would appreciate if you can give an update on the following(as any negotiations and plans by ERC would need to be  put in place fairly soon to meet this date?) -

Have you or any Council Official visited the site yet?

Extent of Road Resurfacing(Viaduct Rd, Linwood Ave, Overlee Rd) to be carried out by Scottish Water

Extent of Road Resurfacing (Viaduct Rd, Linwood Ave, Overlee Rd) to be carried out by East Renfrewshire Council(ERC)

Construction of footway on Viaduct Road

'With regards to the possibility of the additional length of footway being constructed on Viaduct Rd again due to lock down restrictions  on our staff carrying out site visits this has not yet been progressed but our traffic team still have this on their list and if it is considered feasible it would be the intention that any works would be co-ordinated with the Scottish water resurfacing of  Viaduct Road. I will update you regarding this as soon as possible'

Again, your help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Subject: BV / Scottish Water - Linwood Ave/Viaduct Road -  Sewer Works - Over A Year On - Current Update February 2021

Hi

You may be interested(or may not) in our latest update below.

This was posted on Cllr David MacDonalds facebook page a couple of weeks ago.

'Jan Millar It’s  so good to see the reactions of people about Eastwoodmains Road. We on  Viaduct Road have now had over a year of total disruption. Only Scottish  Water kept us informed. It’s still not completed we are now told April  will be the completion date. No message from Council or Councillors.'

Sums it up.

Thanks

Dear Customer

Taking care of your Sewer Network in Clarkston.

Customer Update

As of 8st of February the tunnelling works from Overlee Park to Viaduct Road will commence.

Conditions imposed by Network Rail mean this work will be running 24 hours per day for 5 days, whilst working under their asset.

All tunnelling operations are performed from the drive shaft within Overlee Park.

Noise and vibration monitoring will continue throughout the work.

Removal of the tunnelling machine will require a crane to be positioned on Viaduct Road, this will take place under normal working hours.

We would like to thank you for your continued patience and understanding whilst we complete these essential works.

Yours Sincerely & on behalf of Scottish Water
Nicole McColgan

Subject: FW: Mail Ref  -Viaduct rd/Linwood Avenue - Surfacing/footway & Street Lighting

As I think you will be aware the works in the area being carried out by Scottish Water have suffered considerable delay due to the  COVID restrictions on the construction industry and there revised completion date has been pushed back until the end of April 2021.

Similarly our own planned programme of resurfacing works for 2020/21 has been affected and several schemes have now been deferred  until next financial year, Overlee Road and Linwood Avenue included.

They are included in our draft programme of works for 2021/22 subject to final assessment later this financial year and of course confirmation of budgets for financial year 2021/22 and it  would be my intention to carry out the works upon completion of the Scottish Water works early in the new financial year if possible.

With regards to the possibility of the additional length of footway being constructed on Viaduct Rd again due to lock down restrictions  on our staff carrying out site visits this has not yet been progressed but our traffic team still have this on their list and if it is considered feasible it would be the intention that any works would be co-ordinated with the Scottish water resurfacing of  Viaduct Road.

I will update you regarding this as soon as possible,
Regards
Jane

Hi Jane

As details of future road re-surfacing works have been published in the Barrhead News, can you give me an update on the progress of re-surfacing of Linwood Ave when the current water/sewer works are completed
and on below -

In respect of the potential for installing a new footway on the south side of Viaduct Rd as indicated, our Traffic team have added this to their  list of potential schemes however they have not as yet progressed with any feasibility/costing exercise which they hope to be able to do in the next few weeks.

They will also liaise with Scottish Water regarding their works programme  for the resurfacing of Viaduct Road as it would be hoped that if construction of a new footway is viable then it could possibly be carried out in conjunction with that work.

Hope you have been able to visit the site.

Keep well
Thanks

Hi Jane

Thanks for your response.

It is disappointing that it is now March and you have been unable to visit the site.

A case of 'out if site(sic) out of mind' !

If you do visit, you can knock our door. We would be pleased to give you a cup of tea.

Anyway, you are not the only one to not visit.

Our local councillors Lafferty, Ireland, Miller and MacDonald all seem to have forgotten we exist.

No-one seems to be bothered with our inconvenience now.............

But, we will cope with being soaked making the several trips carrying the shopping etc round to our blocked off houses.

Good news about the old lamppost holes though.

Would appreciate if you can keep me up to date with feasibility/costing exercise of new footway and resurfacing of roads(including Linwood Ave ).

Thanks

Apologies for the delay in my response, I had hoped to be able to visit site myself before responding  to you but as yet have been unable to do so.

With regards to the reinstatement of the footways where the old lighting columns have been removed  this matter has been raised with our contractor and they have been asked to carry out proper reinstatement of these areas as soon as possible.
