East Renfrewshire MP Kirsten Oswald (left) was joined by Clarkston, Netherlee and Williamwood councillor Annette Ireland as they met Michael Sinclair at the Williamwood High to present him with a copy of the parliamentary motion.

Michael Sinclair (16), an S5 pupil at Williamwood High, was recently awarded a Diana Award for his work in support of environmental sustainability and improvement.

Eastwood Rotary Club nominated Michael following a presentation to members on his environmental work in the community.

He has done more than 350 hours volunteering in Linn Park, encouraging biodiversity and running a successful nest box programme.

He also chairs Williamwood High’s environment committee, which he set up, and regularly puts himself out to speak about connecting people with the environment.

Ms Oswald was joined by Clarkston, Netherlee and Williamwood councillor Annette Ireland as they met Michael at the school to present him with a copy of the parliamentary motion.

The MP said: “Michael is a hugely impressive young man and I was pleased to recognise this and to bring his work to the attention of colleagues in parliament.

“I was pleased to hear that, following his Diana award, Michael continues to be busy in his environmental activism and his influence on those around him is significant.

“Today’s Williamwood High pupils will be emerging into a world in which environmental sustainability is at the heart of how we rebuild our economy and society. It was reassuring to hear that these issues are already at the centre of life in the school.”

Councillor Ireland added: “I was hugely impressed by the work taking place at Williamwood High on environmental issues and of Michael’s role in influencing his fellow students.

“Already, through his voluntary work, Michael has made a significant difference to the environment in our local area and well deserves the Diana award in recognition of the commitment he has shown.

“Eastwood Rotary Club are to be congratulated for their decision to nominate Michael for an award following a presentation he gave to members on the work he has been doing.”

Good to see SNP showing the way in how to hold a photo shoot and still socially distance.
